SEO’Brien recently made an interesting post about MSN’s soon to be patented search algorithm.
According to the post, the algorithm “filter[s] the organic results to remove any duplicate listings (two domains pointing to the same website).”
This seems to make things awfully interesting. What do you think?

| Rand at SEOMoz definitely wins the award so far this year for funniest and most informative post at the same time.
“The Illustrated Guide to Duplicate Content in the Search Engines” outlines how search engines (namely Google) seek out and find duplicate content, penalize you for it, and result in you dropping out of hte rankings or into the supplemental rankings. Search engines, especially the GoogleBot (illustrated by Rand on the right) are only getting better and sniffing out duplicate content and the effects of it have never been more severe..and costly. The Browser Screen Resolution Checker is a pretty sweet tool to check your site in different screen resolutions. Back in my webmaster days, I always had to mess with the screen resolution to check this and it was a royal pain!
This tool is very easy to use and you can quickly check your site in all the different resolutions.

Avangate put together a great list of free directories for submitting your site to. All of them are human-edited SEO friendly general directories, where you can submit your website. These directories are ordered by Google PageRank and listed with links to the “Add/Suggest a Site” pages.

It will allow you to check if your link partners are linking back, as well as more advanced features such as creating link pages, disabling broken links, etc.
There are paid tools like this one, but this will definitely do the trick, especially if you are just starting out.
